It finally happened....a Sunday with no snow!!! The sun was out and shining down on us for Sundaylicious, and it felt great!!! Laura and I were so excited about the weather that we took full advantage and chose a restaurant in the South End...we're getting crazy up in here!! See what a little sun will do :-) So we took off in Laura's car, and ventured across town to Hamersley's Bistro on Tremont St. in the South end: http://www.hamersleysbistro.com/home/.
We couldn't have picked a better brunch spot for this very sunny day. Hamersley's is French Farm Chic, and the buttery yellow walls picked up the sunshine through the windows and glowed with warmth. The decor is minimal, but what they do have is perfect. From the chandelier's hanging from the wood beams on the ceiling, to the wire roosters on the shelves...this place is lovely. It has an air of sophistication without being too stuffy. Even though it is notorious for being a very posh expensive restaurant, we felt quite at home and comfortable there. Sometimes going to brunch at a very expensive restaurant is the best way to eat there without breaking the bank. You get to indulge in the delicious food, and you don't have to pay the big bucks. It's a win win :-)
Laura and I got seated at a corner booth, which was perfect for seeing the entire restaurant and great for people watching :-) I think we got the best seat in the house, and our waiter was very nice! He was extremely friendly, and very helpful with our questions about the menu choices. Hamersley's does a seasonal menu, which I love because it makes you want to keep coming back to eat all the delicious food when their menu changes from season to season...smart! We started off with some drinks...naturally...but we switched it up this time! I got a Kir Royal and Laura chose a Bellini, and they were quite scrumptious. We also shared a bowl of homemade Granola with Berries and Fruit, and we added some Greek yogurt to that. I have to say it was a little small for the price ($10)...but it sure was tasty!! The granola was delicious!! For my entree I chose the Simple Skillet Breakfast with scrambled eggs, home fries, smoked bacon and sourdough toast. It was really, really good but did lack a little seasoning. Laura got the Duck sausage, onion and potato hash with a fried egg on top (at the recommendation of our waiter)....and I must say I was a little jealous. Laura said it was amazing, and that it was one of the best dishes she has ever eaten on Sundaylicious!! Obviously this is getting the coveted DISH OF THE DAY!!!
Overall we are giving Hamersley's a 9 out of 10 eggs for food, and a 9 out of 10 eggs for atmosphere. The place was bright and lovely, and it makes you feel at ease while you dine, the decor is chic, and our waiter was very nice. The food was really great...but the drinks were as much as the entrees (drinks $13.50, entrees $15) making this a very expensive brunch, and my dish lacked a tad bit of seasoning (which was why it did not receive a perfect 10). However, Laura got one of the best dishes she has ever eaten...so this will be hands down one to remember, and we will come back to enjoy it again on day. We will not, however, park in the middle of the road in the South End again (which everyone does on Sundays, and we were told by someone who shall remain nameless.....Tommy.....that this was perfectly acceptable) because we got a ticket!!! Ugh!! Not the best way to end a brunch....but the sun was shining and our bellies were full, so we were happy :-)
