That's right...it was another snowy Sunday in Boston this week, but this is old hat now for us New Englanders. This was the fourth snowy Sunday in a row, and we took it in stride this week when we picked our brunch spot. We decided to stay close to home and go to Christopher's in Porter Square, Cambridge MA: http://christopherscambridge.com.s122913.gridserver.com. This is a local favorite restaurant that we have come to a zillion times before for dinner and drinks...but never for brunch!!! So we thought this was the perfect time to take advantage of a cool place that's basically in our back yard...and we sure weren't dissapointed :-)
Christophers's is that local restaurant you go to for good food, good drinks, and good times. It is super comfy and always gives off good vibes. They also always have the best music playing in the background, that somehow fits the mood of the day perfectly. On this particualar day, Christopher's had their fireplace going, and we were seated in a booth where we could gaze out a window at the beautiful snow falling. It doesn't get more cozy and comfy than this place on a day like this :-) We had a guest bruncher with us as well, so it made it even more special. My downstairs neighbor Deb has been so excited to join us for brunch, and on this snowy Sunday it finally happened!! We arrived at Christopher's around 12:45pm and were seated right away...bonus!
Christopher's is a cool brick building, that has a wrap around bar, and when it gets super busy they also have an upstairs room. They weren't too crowded this Sunday, probably due to the weather, but they always have a pleasant, cheery crowd just out for a good time. The service is also always super welcoming. They are not too in your face, but they give you just the right amount of checking in as your meal progresses. We started off the brunch with a tea for Deb, a Mimosa for me, and a Bloody Mary for Laura. The drinks were quite tasty, and Deb's tea came in the cutest glass carafe. Laura's Bloody was super thick, hearty, and full of horseradish to spice it up....it definitely woke up her sinuses!! My Mimosa was the perfect combo of Champagne and just a splash of OJ.....PERFECTION!! We also got a cup of coffee, and that was really good as well....win win so far :-)
For our entrees, Deb and I both chose the Fruit stuffed French Toast which came with a side of cantaloupe and home fries. The French toast was stuffed with strawberries and kiwis, and it was sooooooo yummy!! I could have used some extra stuffing (as I found them just slightly dry), but overall the flavor was scrumptious. The home fries had good flavor, but they were a bit undercooked and not as crispy as we would have liked. Laura got the Aged Cheddar Omelet which came with aged sharp cheddar cheese, Applewood smoked bacon & beefsteak tomato inside, and a side of home fries and cantaloupe as well...Yummy!! The food was very tasty, and it was perfect for a snowy day...it warmed us up, and filled us up with goodness.
After lots of catching up with my two ladies, and a couple of cups of coffee later, it was time to make our way back out into the snow and head home. With the fire roaring, and the good food and drinks flowing, it sure was hard to leave. Overall, we give Christopher's an 8 out of 10 eggs for food, and an 8 out of 10 eggs for atmosphere. The dish of the day was our Fruit Stuffed French Toast, because it had a nice balance of sweet and tart flavors, and it was just plain DELICIOUS!! This is a solid place where the food is good and so are the drinks. You get quality dishes, and whenever you come here you are not disappointed (just ask my husband Tommy about Christopher's buffalo tofu wings...and he will sing their praises!!!). So if you want a cozy, neighborhood spot to get good food and drinks, Christopher's is your joint (with or without the snow).
