Bloc, as we call it, is a cafe with a gourmet menu of salads, sandwiches, and drinks. It is so nice to go and sit down amongst our neighborhood locals, and relax while you enjoy the delicious treats. Their sandwiches can be served either cold or hot, and any salad can be made into a sandwich if you would like that instead. The coffees, teas, and drinks are also amazing...I am quite partial to the hot apple cider when it's in season. The best thing on the menu, however, is the breakfast egg sandwich!!! We haven't actually been to Bloc for brunch in awhile because of Sundaylicious. We are always trying new places to write to you about, so Bloc slipped under our radar. In fact, we couldn't believe that we haven't blogged about it yet, considering it is one of our favorite places to go!!! So when Laura picked me, we knew Bloc was the perfect place for Sundaylicious today..
I actually could not wait to eat the egg sandwich because I crave it...it is that good!!! It is served on rosemary focaccia bread which is soft, but has a super crunchy crust to it. It is a perfect compliment to the sandwich. You can add other things to the sandwich like ham, avocado...but I like it with just eggs and cheese. I also got the yogurt parfait, which is another one of my favorites here. They use a vanilla yogurt, and add fresh strawberries and bananas, along with granola. Today it was a little heavy on the granola, but still very tasty! I added a nice pot of tea to my breakfast, as I am still fighting off a cold my little niece Frida gave me when I was home last week.
Laura had already eaten breakfast before her move, so she went for a sandwich today. She chose The Terrace: which is turkey, cheddar, red onion, avocado, romaine, garlic mayo on the same rosemary focaccia bread. It looked amazing!!!
FYI: My favorite sandwich is The Davis!!! The macaroni salad was a little on the skimpy side, which is an issue Tommy always complains about. The sides are so good they should give you a little bit more for the price you pay for the sandwich.
Bloc 11 use to be an old bank, so it makes for a fun atmosphere to chill out in...you can even sit in the old vault in the back!!! It has big windows in the front, that are open when the weather is nice, and brick walls that give it an added warmth. They hang art made by local artists on the walls, and you can buy a painting if you like one. They also have an open mic night on Wednesdays, so they are a big support to the local art scene!! They even decorate for Halloween which is a huge plus in my book!!!! They also have an outdoor patio that is open in nice weather, which is right around the corner....we hope!!! I can't say enough great things about Bloc 11. We give them an 8 out of 10 eggs for food, and an 8 out of 10 eggs for atmosphere ( I would give them a 10 out of 10 eggs overall, but there are certain factors we have to go by for Sundaylicious). It can be very crowded during the weekends so seating can be an issue, and we knocked off a couple of eggs for the prices being a little too high and NO MIMOSAS!!! Sorry Bloc 11, but we gotta stay true to our Sundaylicious viewers. Laura was so tired from helping her friend move that we called it a day after we were done eating. I am just so glad we got to hang out together, and at one of our favorite places in Somerville!!!
