Easterlicious with a side of Friendly Toast

Well it has been a hot minute, but Sundaylicious is back in action!!!  Time has flown by and it's been a couple of weeks since the last post...with Easter one Sunday, and a bridal shower the next Sunday, it was hard for Laura and I to meet up to do our usual hang.  I was actually having anxiety about missing my girl and our chill time (and our mimosas!!!), but finally the universe has righted itself once again, and we were able to go to brunch together.  Before I discuss this weeks brunch place, I must give huge props to my Mother-in-law and Laura's mom for making the best Easter brunch for us when we went home!!!  Laura drove to New Jersey to be with her family on Easter, and Tommy and I went to spend it with his family in Cohoes, NY.  I told Laura to take photos of her dishes, and I would as well....because these Mommy's don't mess around when it comes to family and FOOD!!!!  The food couldn't have been more different (Laura's family is Polish, and Tommy's family is Italian), but each of us was spoiled rotten by these unbelievably amazing home cooked dishes.  They were so awesome that I thought we would share them with you all.
Both Moms are big fans of Sundaylicious, so it was no surprise that after a long drive to our family homes both moms had delicious brunches waiting for us.  They sure know how to spoil us!!!!  Tommy's mom had made a yogurt parfait (made especially with vanilla yogurt), egg sammys made with Boursin cheese (AMAZING!!!!), and of course MIMOSA'S and BLOODY'S!!!

It was the best way to start the day!!!  That was just for starters....after that we ate her famous pizza, her famous spinach bread, and pepperoni bread, and her famous home made pasta served with Tommy sauce (vegetarian) or Timmy Sauce (meat sauce).  For dessert we had cupcakes to celebrate my birthday (as well as our niece Emma's), strawberry shortcake, and chocolate pudding cake...YUM!!! Let's just say that my belly was stuffed for the drive home that night!!!  And the best part is we got to take home leftovers!! SCORE!!!

Laura's Mom also had a nice spread of family traditions awaiting Laura's arrival.  The Butler's had their traditional holiday drink of choice: Magners cider, which helped Laura calm her nerves after that treacherous drive on the Parkway (if you've ever driven that drive from Boston down to the Jersey/Philly area you know what I'm talking about!!!), and they also had nice cold strawberry bellini's on the patio with some cheese and fruit.  Their Easter meal has been made year after year, and I think that is so awesome that these traditions have been carried down through generations.  They have deviled eggs, honey baked ham with pineapple, twice baked potatoes, horseradish beets (which her grandfather always use to make by hand), Kapusta which is kielbasa with sauerkraut, and grilled asparagus.  They also have Babka, which is Polish Easter bread.  It is super buttery, and has raisins and orange zest.  Laura loves it with a cup of tea in the morning :)  They also have a lamb cake, which is a spice cake with coconut icing, and they make it every year.  The original cast mold was her Great Aunt Sophie's....how cool is that!!!!    I like the butter in the shape of a lamb personally....I need to know where one can buy butter in this shape...it is so unbelievably cute!!!  Another delicious dish served at the Butler's Easter feast was Ambrosia, which Laura's mom made especially with vanilla yogurt...I think these mom's have been really paying attention to our posts!!!

I think one thing is clear from these pictures.....we sure are spoiled!!!!  That, and these Mom's sure can cook!!!!  They get 10 EGGS!!!!!!!!!!!
If you guys have any pictures from your delicious Easter Sunday, please share them with us!! We would love to see them!!!
Well after that kind of homemade food how can I continue on....what could possible follow that, right?  Well I must continue on, so here goes...This Sunday we went to The Friendly Toast in Cambridge,MA.  This is not our first attempt to eat here actually.  Tommy has really wanted to go since they have a great tofu scramble on their menu, so we tried a couple of weeks ago.  When we got there that time, we were told a 2 hour wait so we left.  This time we got up super early (well to us anyway) and Laura picked Tommy and me up at 10am!!!!  That's right, I got Laura up and out before 11am!!  This may never happen again, so I might as well gloat now while I can-Hehehe!!  Since we were early, I thought for sure we wouldn't have a long wait.  Yet once again, when we arrived it was packed!!  What are they serving, crack?  I mean seriously, what is making this place such a goldmine?  Every time we come it is CRAZY.  We were given a 45 minute wait, so we figured we better take it because if we left now we would never come back.  This place is manic, and is not the usual chill brunch that we are accustomed to.  Laura went into high gear and found a few stools at the bar.  We decided to eat there since it would cut our wait down by more than half.  As we sat at the bar we checked out all the cool things all over the walls...fake plastic heads, funny posters, scary paintings...there is a lot to look at.

The three of us ordered coffee, and Laura and I got our mimosas of course.  You definitely need a cocktail after fighting the crowd to get a seat.  The bar was packed the whole time, and the poor hostess has to yell her head off to get people to their tables, but our waitress at the counter was nice.  Tommy got his coveted tofu scramble, and after all the hubub he was dissapointed in it.  I felt bad because this place was his pick, but at least he finally got to eat it.  The tofu scramble was bland, and the potatoes weren't that great.

I got the chocolate chip pancakes...and the were HUGE!!!!!!  I got two but would have been fine with one....thank goodness I didn't get three which is what Laura told me to do...shesh...I could barely make a dent in them.  They were delicious, very buttery and fluffy, but a little too chocolatey (I know! Crazy that I am saying that right?).  Laura got the dish of the day with her huevos rancheros.  It was super rich and savory, and the potatoes it came with melted in your mouth (I know... because I kept eating them..hehe..sorry Laura).

Over all we give The Friendly Toast 6 eggs for atmosphere, and 7 eggs for food :(   We had to dock a lot of eggs off for many different things.  For one, they lost eggs because it is just too crazy there.  It does not make for a fun relaxing Sunday brunch.  You have people yelling, people getting grumpy because of the wait, people getting angry because they can't get to the bar to order a drink...it just makes for a not so enjoyable time.  Tommy even heard someone say "The Friendly Toast is not so Friendly"...YIKES!  The food was good, but in my opinion not worth that wait.  Maybe I didn't get the right dish, but neither did Tommy and it was his brunch spot.  Also, our waitress forgot our yogurt granola bowl, and well.....you know how obsessed we are about our yogurt bowls....so that was the last straw......eggs gone!!  However, they are obviously doing something right because they have a long wait every Sunday.  So if you go, go very very early!!! and be prepared to wait...because you will.
