To make up for the wait, we got seated in a booth which ruled. They didn't do this on purpose, but it totally made up for the wait in our heads. Highland Kitchen can be a tight spot if you get the seats in the middle of the room. They are more cramped, but we scored a booth so we were in. So we sprawled out, enjoyed our highly coveted spot and got ready to order. Coffee right away of course, so I can two fist it with style:
Laura chose the BLT, and added a fried egg on it. This was the dish of the day!! It was messy and she needed to ask for more napkins, but that is where the flavor is!!! I had a couple of bites and I was jealous!! It was so delicious, and it came with yummy potatos that melted in your mouth.
We also split the fruit and yogurt bowl, which was good but not my favorite. It had unflavored yogurt and therefor was not that sweet. I am a huge fan of vanilla yogurt, so I might be a bit biased. Even the fruit didn't cut that unsweetened taste. If it had some honey drizzled on it like I had last week that would have definitely helped.
The best part of brunch at Highland Kitchen is not just the food, but the live bluegrass music. It is performed by The Highland Drifters, which is a bluegrass/country trio and they are AMAZING!!! It makes us feel like we are in Ithaca getting ready for the Grassroots Festival. They make it so much fun (even when you have to wait for an hour to sit down). Highland Kitchen itself has a very cool vibe. It is futuristic yet retro at the same time: the Flinstones meets Brooklyn (and Kentucky adds Laura).
The atmosphere is cozy and warm, which is why we will keep on coming back to Highland Kitchen. We gave them 9 eggs for atmosphere, and I gave them 8 eggs for food. Laura gave them 9 eggs for food (she did get the dish of the day). They also have a great dinner menu, so I highly recommend going for dinner as well. However, they will have a wait no matter when you go so come mentally prepared and grab a drink (or two) while you wait.
After our Sundaylicious brunch, Laura and I headed over to Target for a "Target Run". Did you ever notice that when you go to Target, even for one or two things, you end up spending so much money. We all laugh about it, but seriously it happens EVERY time!! That's because Target rules. You can get everything you need, and it somehow always is food for your soul. You walk around and browse as if you are in a library for your home..I need that, I need that...OH YES I NEED THAT TOO!! After Target I did a little crafting for my soul:
Getting ready for our next holiday Sundaylicious style!!! Next week, Sundaylicious goes SUPERBOWL!!!

best brunch yet!
