Sundaylicious went Superbowl style this week at Laura's house. Due to the fact that I was traveling all day on a train back from visiting my family in Philadelphia and that the BIG game was on in the evening, the usual brunch could not be done. I sure did miss my mimosa in the morning, but Laura made up for it with cheese, cheese, more cheese and SANGRIA!!!! After a mimosa, Sangria is top on my list.
As soon as I arrived in Boston, my husband picked me up and drove us over to the super bowl party. It was a good thing that I didn't eat all day, because Laura and her roomie Stephen cooked us up a feast.
As I walked in the door I was bombarded with the vast array of goodies at my disposal. This was not your average junk food super bowl spread. We had dip and veggies, dip and chips, popcorn, an FIVE types of cheeses with crackers galore. Let's just say I had a little bit of everything. This is how to throw a party people!!! The cheese spreads alone were to die for. We had a cheddar cheese spread, a port cheese spread, a buffalo cheese spread, pepper jack slices, and I brought boursin cheese (as I always say "It's not a party without Boursin"). I was stuffed and we hadn't even had dinner yet :)
Yummy!!! There is nothing like cheese to make you feel SUPER comfy for a SUPER game. Who needs to have brunch when you can have an all you can eat Superbowl EXTRAVAGANZA!!!!
I didn't think I could eat anymore, but then Laura called dinner. It was evident that Laura and Stephen were busy all day preparing this food. The list of options showed the love and care, and TIME they put into it. The dinner choices were: a pasta salad, a bean salad, and potato/hummus tacos--YUM!! Laura hit the nail on the head with this recipe inspired by her place of work: 5 Horses (in Davis Sq. Somerville). Well done my friend!!! As an added bonus there was also a veggie chili which left me with no more room for dessert.
The game itself had our heads spinning, and the nail biting ending had our stomachs in knots (which after a meal like that could have been ugly). Highlights for me: MADONNA!!! She looked AMAZING, and while she could have moved a little better (it was her HEELS I swear!!) she still gave one hell of a show. She did not need LMFAO, Niki, or MIA (with her middle finger) to prove that she is hip and in the now. The fact that she was doing the Superbowl is proof enough for me. I will be buying tickets to her next show which will be my 3rd time seeing her...and Laura better get ready to boogie because she already promised to go with me HAHA!!!
Before the game was over, I followed this meal up with five green peanut M&M's and one more glass of Sangria....that was all I could fit after such a huge spread. This was an amazing way to come back to Beantown. It certainly was a FEAST FOR CHAMPIONS (even if the Patriots didn't win). Next week Sundaylicious gets back to brunch and our two fisting ways...coffee and mimosas here we come!!!
