BOSTON STRONG!!!!

A lot has happened to our beautiful city since our last post...and to pay homage to our fine city of Boston, Laura and I decided to spend this Sundaylicious day in the heart of this great city where it all went down just weeks ago.  This weekend was a big weekend for Boston.  They re-opened Boylston Street, and asked the citizens to come out and support the area...and we were happy to be a part of this event.  I am so proud of our city, and the phenomenal way that we took this tragic event and turned it around...it made this city stronger and even more united....WE ARE ONE BOSTON!!!
To start the day off, We payed our respects as we walked past the site of the two blast zones.  It is hard to describe in words how this made us feel.  It was sad and bizarre to walk on this street....like we have done a million times before....but now it feels so different.  It could have happened anywhere, to anyone...but it happened right here...crazy!!  The spot of this destruction might as well be my backyard...I have walked these streets so often....shopped at that Anthropologie on the corner a zillion times...popped into that Starbucks for coffee....and yet it will never be the same again.  Walking Boylston Street with all these people today was very monumental....it shows that we will never forget, but we will not live in fear...they did not win...WE ARE BOSTON STRONG!!!

Laura and I chose to eat at Sonsie today because this restaurant is a Boston must!  http://sonsieboston.com/flash.  It is right on Newbury St., and it is known as a very posh place to eat and be seen.   I used to work on Newbury St. every Sunday, and when I would walk by Sonsie I had dreams of having brunch there and sitting right at the window with a Mimosa in hand....today I made that dream a reality!!!   When we arrived, we were immediately sat in the second row of the front section....great, but not perfection.  If you have never been to Sonsie, the front section is filled with cute tables for two that are all turned out like a Parisian cafe so you can sit and look outside.  Front row is prime real estate...We wanted this section super bad...and I was coveting this table that was about to get up.  As soon as they did, we jumped at the chance to get that spot...and it was just as awesome as I thought it would be!!  Once you get over the awkward feeling that the people on the street are looking at you, it is a sweet spot to chill and relax.  This Sunday was a beautiful day...sunny and 70 degrees with a nice breeze...the perfect day to sit in the window and drink your coffee and people watch.

Laura and I ordered some cocktails to make a toast to this special day as well as to the people of Boston.  I got a Blood Orange Mimosa, and Laura got a Bloody Mary.  We were slightly disappointed in our cocktails today, which is always a bummer.  My Mimosa was not made with fresh juice, but what seemed like a fake tasting juice concentrate.  It was not one of my favorites.  Laura's Bloody was not spicy at all, and basically tasted like tomato juice....hmmm, if Laura wanted plain tomato juice she would have asked for plain tomato juice... what a bummer.   For our appetizers, I got a housemade granola and greek yogurt parfait.  I am noticing that if the restaurant mentions the word granola before the word yogurt, that means you get a smidge of yogurt and a ton of granola...needless to say this dish was a little dry.  It could have used a drizzle of honey and that would have made a world of difference.  Laura got 3 oysters...and she thought they were divine!  It doesn't get much fresher than oysters from Wellfleet, MA.   For our entrees I chose the Spinach quiche, which came with a roasted tomato, and home fries.  The Quiche was good, but it was under seasoned.  It was a nice size portion, but not my favorite quiche ever (it probably doesn't help that my Mom made one hell of a spinach quiche in her day!!!).   Laura got the prime rib hash, which came with onions, peppers, and a poached egg on top, as well as home fries.  It was good, but again this dish was very under seasoned...so disappointing :-(

To finish off the meal we had a cup of coffee and just relaxed.  The coffee was good and almost our dish of the day....but we ended up giving that award to Laura's Oysters for being so darn fresh and tasty...as Laura says, "Tastes just like the Ocean"!!  Overall, we gave Sonsie a 7 out of 10 eggs for food, and a 9 out of 10 eggs for atmosphere.  The place itself is cute and has a Parisian theme...and we got the coveted spot at a table in the window!!  It doesn't get better than that!!  The food was good, but didn't blow us away....and maybe if they had added a little more salt and pepper their score would have improved.  Sonsie is that place in Boston that you have to go to at least once...so we can check that off our Boston bucket list :-)  After the meal, Laura and I took a stroll down Newbury St. to the Public Garden, and just enjoyed the lovely day.  We did a little shopping, a little people watching (there even was a beautiful wedding going on right in the Public Garden)...and more importantly gave some love back to the city that holds a strong place in our hearts!!  We love you Boston!!!
