Reggaelicious

We have been super lucky with the weather these past few Sundays!!  You couldn't ask for better!! It was a gorgeous sunny day, and what goes hand in hand with a fine Summer day?.....Reggae Music!!!  Laura and I decided to check out West End Johnnies which features a Reggae brunch with The Conscious Band every Sunday, http://www.westendjohnnies.com/.   On this particular Sunday it also featured my Husband Tommy on drums.  He has been filling in for the band (It was the same band I went to see last Sunday at the Liberty Hotel), so Laura and I figured it was the best time to check them out and their lively brunch.  Laura had never seen them perform so I was excited to take her.  Another Sundaylicious day together, in our amazingly awesome city.
West End Johnnies is right near North Station in the West End, so we took the green line and walked to the restaurant.  We had made a 1:00pm reservation, and we got seated right away.  We were a bit far from the band, but they were packed so we couldn't get closer.  The place itself is a cool sports bar.  More cool than sports, so that makes it very chill and relaxing.  All over the walls are pictures and old time sports memorabilia.  The walls are part brick and light wood, and the copper pipes along the ceiling make for a warm tone that keeps the restaurant light and airy.  There are old signs from the public garden hanging from the ceiling, a huge painting of Bill Bellichik, and even old sports lockers from some Boston sports team.  It has a lot of interesting things to see, which is always a good conversation starter.
We started off our brunch with a selection from the "liquid brunch" menu.  We each ordered a "Big Mike's Mimosa", which was AWESOME!!  It was extremely bubbly and refreshing!! It came in a pint glass, and they don't waste space with too much ice.  It was a fine mix of champagne and OJ....and believe it or not "Big Mike's Mimosa" is our dish of the day.  After a couple of those we were definitely dancing in our seats!!  For my main course I chose to make my own omelet, which I filled with asparagus, spinach, tomato, onions, and cheddar cheese---YUM!  It came with breakfast potatoes and toast...which I did not get (maybe they got my memo about how much I hate toast...hehe!).  The omelet was good, and had a nice fluffy consistency.  The potatoes were crispy and tasty, even though they are definitely frozen potatoes.  Laura chose the Eggs Benedict which also came with potatoes.  It was ooey-gooey, and very much to her liking.  This is how Eggs Benedict should be done.  When she was finished there was nothing left but a nice orange smear of egg left on the plate. A sure sign of a good E.B!
The Conscious Band had everyone bouncing to their songs, which included hits like "I Feel Good" by Beres Hammond, "You're Just Too Good to be True" by Frankie Valli, and "Trench Town Rock" by Bob Marley.  They had a nice crowd of gals dancing up front, Sangria glasses in hand, and everyone was dancing in their seats.  They really know how to put on a great show, and the music makes you feel good which is perfect for a Summer day.  Errol Strength, the lead singer, even went around and sang to every lady in the joint....now that's classy, folks!!!
Overall we give West End Johnnies an 8 out of 10 eggs for atmosphere (we definitely added an egg because of the music!!), and a 7 out of 10 eggs for food.  The food was good, but not remarkable.  The music and the fun memorabilia are the reasons to make the trip to West End Johnnies, and we don't think you will be disappointed.
After our brunch, Laura and I took a walk through Faneuil Hall as we waited for Tommy to finish the gig.  We had a nice walk, and even saw some Revolutionary soldiers having a beer in a local pub......I love Boston!!!!
Can you see the soldiers in the pic above?  This was right before they got mad at everyone taking pictures of them and turned their backs on us....HA!  We got some gelato in Quincy Market, which was perfect for a hot day, and I got my favorite macaroon cookie to take home for later.....it was sooooooo good!!!  Then we sat down by the water and just enjoyed the vitamin D that the sun supplied us with that day, until Tommy came and picked us up to drive us home.  How lucky can two girls be!!
