Another glorious Sunday in Boston, and Laura and I took full advantage and planned a fun filled day of food, manicures, a movie, and some live music. Our agenda was packed full, and we were ready to go. We even got to sleep in a little, which only adds to the greatness of a Sundaylicious day. Our first stop was for brunch at the Beacon Hill Bistro, http://beaconhillhotel.com/bistro/, in the Beacon Hill Hotel on Charles St. in Boston. I LOVE Charles St, and I couldn't wait to finally have a brunch there. To be honest, I have been waiting for good weather to do Sundaylicious in this area because there is nothing better than to take a stroll down Charles St. on a nice day. The shops are awesome (a bit pricey for us, but still great to window shop), and there are a ton of great restaurants. Charles St. really captures the charm of Boston, so if you haven't been there I highly suggest you go.
Beacon Hill Bistro was very cute and chic, and Laura and I were immediately taken in by it's bright atmosphere. All the walls are white, the floor is tiled white and black, and the furniture is very dark so it makes the restaurant warm and inviting. It's very French....guess that's why it's a Bistro!! It is another small restaurant, and the main room is another long train like area, which can make for a tight fit. Laura and I got lucky and were seated at a four top, so we had plenty of space to spread out.
The menu had some really great choices, and we went back and forth between options before we made our final selections. We both chose the French Onion Soup because it was a bit cold inside the restaurant (and our neighbor got it and it looked AMAZING!!!!) I decided to go for the roasted red pepper frittata with potatoes, onions, and cheddar cheese. The Frittata was good, but not great. The potatoes are cooked inside the eggs, and while they were rather tasty, they dried out the meal overall. Our waiter was a little on the lax side, and he took a long time with our coffee's and drinks (I got a mimosa...shocking I know!! Laura got a Bloody Mary to help kick out a cold that was brewing in her system). However our main course came out five minutes after we ordered which was strange. Almost as if they were meant for another table. The other disappointing thing about our meals were they were not that hot, again supporting our idea that they were for someone else and had been sitting in the kitchen for a bit :-( We didn't even get our soup first, it came as we were eating the meal....again supporting our claim that the meals were not for us and came out too early....it's all a conspiracy against us! I guess no one wants a ten out of ten eggs these days!! The French Onion Soup was tasty (and hot!!), but the cheese that is normally melting in a gooey delicious cover over the bowl was only on the slice of bread they put in the soup. Well, that was one tasty piece of bread, but we would have loved more cheese in the soup (it is the best part of French Onion Soup after all right?).
Laura choose the Poached Eggs with Smoked Ham, Toasted Brioche, and Herb Hollandaise (aka their version of Eggs Benedict). It was good, but the eggs were not the way she likes them to be. They were not cooked correctly and were over done...they did not ooze out like you want them to on that type of dish. Again, her dish was luke warm as well, and she said it was not the best Eggs Benedict she has had in Boston. Her Bloody Mary was great though, and hopefully it did the trick and Laura does not have a cold right now (I guess we will all have to wait until this Sunday to find out).
Overall, we give Beacon Hill Bistro an 7 out of 10 eggs for Atmosphere, and a 6 out of 10 eggs for food. They lost some points on mediocre service, the food being luke warm, and the appetizers being served before the main course. The place itself is charming, and Charles St. is wonderful, but unfortunately we were a little underwhelmed.
After brunch Laura and I decided to treat ourselves to a manicure. We went to Towne Nails on Charles St., and let me tell you this place is a hidden jewel!! It was only $12 for a mani, and they did an AMAZING job!! Laura and I were on the same color vibe on Sunday (we both had an orange/coral shirt on, and we both chose a coral nail color)...we are so connected :-) I HAVE to buy my color that I used, I love it so much (it was Tazmanian Devil made me do it by OPI). That's us below chatting away as our nails dried :-)
Once our nails were done and looking FAB, we grabbed a Starbucks coffee and took a walk in the Public Gardens. There is nothing better then walking in the Gardens in my opinion. It is one of my favorite places in Boston!! We saw some truly gorgeous flowers, and some truly strange ones too (check out the purple flowers that look like they came from Willy Wonka's candy factory).
After our stroll in the Park, we went to see the movie "Snow White and the Huntsman"....which was soooooo good!!! I recommend seeing this one on the big screen folks, because the special effects are unbelievable!! I want to see it again :-) Laura then went home to rest, and I walked over to see my husband Tommy perform at the Liberty Hotel with The Conscious Band. It was really a beautiful night, and they were playing outside...it couldn't have been better (well.....if Laura was with me it would have been). They even dedicated two songs to me...not just one but TWO!!!! I am one lucky girl :-) This was such a wonderful day, and even though we did so much it never felt rushed or stressed....If only every day could be this perfect.
